Packages, experience, working styles and what is actually included can vary enormously. A lower quote isn't necessarily better value — and a beautiful portfolio doesn't always tell you what working with that vendor will be like.

DON'T START WITH THE PRICE
TWO QUOTES CAN LOOK SIMILAR — AND BUY VERY DIFFERENT THINGS

Before deciding that one vendor is more expensive than another, make sure you're actually comparing the same service.
Imagine you're comparing two photographers.
One quotes €2,800 and includes five hours of coverage and 150 edited photographs, with everything else available as an add-on.
Another quotes €3,600 but includes eight hours of coverage, a second photographer, 850+ edited photographs and a discount on an additional session the following day.
At first glance, the first photographer is €800 cheaper. But these aren't two prices for the same thing — they're two very different packages.
Once you start adding two or three extra hours of coverage, a second photographer and other services to the first package, the final price may actually end up higher than the second quote.
The lowest starting price isn't always the lowest final cost.
And this isn't only true for photography.
A caterer's quote may or may not include staff, tableware, equipment and overtime. A florist may charge separately for installation and breakdown. A band may require additional sound equipment, travel or accommodation. Hair and makeup pricing may change depending on trials, assistants, start times and location.

For most couples, this is the first time they've hired a photographer, caterer, florist, makeup team, band and other wedding professionals.
You're not supposed to already know how all of these services work —
or which extras might actually matter.
Do you need a second photographer? What would they capture that one photographer couldn't?
Do you need a content creator if you already have a videographer? What does each one actually deliver?
Do you need a second hair or makeup artist? How many people need to get ready — and can one artist finish everyone without pushing your wedding-day timeline?
Who steams the wedding dress on the morning of the wedding? Is that something your venue, planner or stylist provides — or something you need to arrange separately?
These aren't questions most couples have had a reason to think about before.
And that's why choosing a vendor isn't simply about comparing prices and packages. First, you need to understand what each service actually adds to your wedding.

Have they worked with weddings like yours?
Not simply weddings in general — but your type of venue, guest count, logistics and destination wedding circumstances.
02 — WHAT'S INCLUDED
What are you actually buying?
Hours, staffing, deliverables, travel, setup, breakdown, revisions and extras can make apparently similar packages very different.
03 — WORKING STYLE
Will you be comfortable working together?
Some vendors are highly proactive. Others expect detailed direction.
Some communicate constantly; others mainly step in when they're needed.
04 — RELIABILITY
What happens when something doesn't go according to plan?
Contracts, backup plans, replacement policies and clear communication matter just as much as what you see on Instagram.
LOOK FOR THE RIGHT FIT — NOT JUST THE BEST PORTFOLIO
It's easy to choose vendors by the work that photographs best.
But your wedding team isn't simply producing flowers, photographs, food or music. These are people you'll trust with parts of a day you can't repeat.
A photographer whose work you love may have a working style that makes you uncomfortable.
A celebrated caterer may be poorly suited to the logistics of your venue.
A florist may create extraordinary installations that require more setup time than your venue allows.
The question isn't only “Are they good?”
It's “Are they right for this wedding?”

Can consultations, trials, tastings or planning meetings be handled remotely — and what will need to wait until you arrive in France?
COORDINATION
Who communicates with the venue and other vendors before and during the wedding?
A great vendor still needs to work within the reality of a destination wedding.
SHOULD YOU HIRE LOCALLY — OR BRING A VENDOR TO FRANCE?
Hiring locally can reduce travel costs and give you access to someone who already understands the region, local venues and suppliers — and may already know how things work on the ground.
But there may be a photographer whose work you specifically love, a makeup artist you already trust or another professional you simply want to be part of the wedding.
In that case, compare more than their fee. Travel, accommodation, meals, baggage, local transportation and additional working days can all become part of the real cost. Also consider how easily they can work with your venue and the rest of your team once they're in France.
There may also be legal and administrative requirements to consider. A vendor who can legally work in your home country isn't automatically entitled to provide paid services in France simply because they're travelling with you.
Depending on their situation, work authorisation or other formalities may be required.
If bringing a vendor from abroad matters to you, check this before signing a contract or booking their travel.
Don't ask only what it costs to hire them. Ask what it costs to have them at your wedding in France

Your photographer and videographer need to coordinate where and how they work — and stay connected with the reception host or coordinator so they know what's happening next and don't miss an important moment.
Your florist, designer and rental company need aligned delivery and setup times. Furniture may need to be in place before flowers and décor can be installed.
Your hair and makeup team affects when the couple and wedding party are ready — which in turn affects photography and the rest of the timeline.
Your caterer, entertainment and coordinator need to stay aligned on dinner service, speeches, performances and the moments that follow.

Hair and makeup needs to finish before portraits can begin. Rentals may need to arrive before the florist can start installation. Dinner service affects speeches, speeches affect entertainment, and your photographer and videographer need to know where to be before each important moment happens.
When one part moves, several others may need to move with it.
A realistic timeline accounts for much more than ceremony and dinner times. It considers setup, getting ready, photography, travel, vendor access, guest movement, transitions — and the time things actually take in real life.
